Since I jump into photography in late of 2013, I watch many famous photographers YouTube channel and I found interesting things they do to their branding, I’ll give one of the examples, Matt Granger with “ThatNikonGuy” branding. If you watch his channel quite a while, then you’ll find this video that declares the branding is dead.
The question is, why would he do that? Even after the branding established and used anywhere including his community (forum) domain. I wonder why he is willing to take the risk to lose his audience by changing the brand? Well, I may experience his consideration today since I’m trying to do a kind of similar thing last year.
I bought few internet domains and focus on different content to serve difference audience. But what happens is that, if I’m the only one who maintains all of this domains, actually I couldn’t focus on any one of it. And I give more confusion to my audience about why suddenly I stop posting about my photography stuff because I posted on another channel for my photography audience. (more…)
Two years ago, I was accidentally bump into an antique camera store while doing street photography near Pasar Seni bus terminal in Kuala Lumpur (KL). The owner of the camera store is an old Chinese guy and by the moment we met, I have no issue at all with the guy, until … let me finished my story first. 🙂
Meanwhile, I was asking for the price of Helios 44m displayed in the window and he give me the price XXX RM for the lens. There were two copies of the lens that time, so he was asking which one do I want. So I pointed to one of them (since they both at the same price), and then he offer me to get the lens with original classic UV filter that comes with the lens but I need to top up for another XX RM.
I ask him that can he give me the filter for the same price (for free)? Here’s comes the funny part, he give me the filter and he took out the lens rear cap and then I like, what?! Wait a minute, why do you took the rear cap? He answered, so what do you want? do you want the rear cap or the filter? I feel that he’s a bit rude that time, so I told him that, let me get the initial offer, XXX RM for the lens (and all the cap) without UV filter. No more words, after transaction complete, I immediately get out of his store. (more…)
One of “genre” in photography (if there’s such thing as a genre) that I really like is “Candid Street Environmental Portraiture” :-). Not the conceptual candid, but real candid. We often hear people ask us to join an event they called “hunting”, but actually it’s a conceptual. Doing candid photography feels like you’re really “hunting” for good moment, interesting character, on the street. We don’t concept the shot, these are real people, this is exactly what they’re wearing that moment, that was their actual expression and that is what they do in that particular time.
As you can see in previous photo, I didn’t put the Power Ranger background at the background, neither put that white board (props) near the subject. When I saw her, she completely separate from the crowd which is mostly kids. Another example in the next photo, I think everyone will agree that she’s very interesting character in that event, she’s attracting visitor to buy Power Ranger merchandise. (more…)
